Handling early season matches

New European and American leagues have now been setup and configured.  If you spot any problems please do let us know!

Some South American leagues (notably Colombia and Mexico) have an open and close double mini-season structure each year (Apertura and Clausura).  At present, the stats for these are combined into a single season rather than being separated.

We'd like to take this opportunity to highlight some unique futstats.net functionality that can help in the early stages of seasons where the stats for the "current season" will be limited.

For the public area, any season that started within the past 30 days will automatically show statistics for the previous 20 matches (L20).    Registered users have the option of selecting layouts and setting sidebar defaults.

The "Last 20" (L20) dimension shows matches across all competitions and is therefore useful for getting stats from previous seasons, especially for promoted or relegated teams.

Obviously, the stats need to be understood in your analysis - recognising that the previous matches can be against significantly different levels of opposition.

A good example would be the English Champtionship opening match between Sheffield Wednesday v Southamption.    Sheffield Wednesday were promoted to the Championship this year, whereas Southamption were relegated to the Champsionship.
